       @gutenberg_org I can recall July 4, 1971 pretty well.  My recollection is that a few firms, e.g.  IBM had long distance tele-comm between datacenters,  and some, e.g.  Xerox,  Comshare, GE and IBM  sold dial-up timesharing compute services via teletypewriters with 120 or 150 baud modems and paper tape readers;   there were dial-a-joke phone numbers, and time and temperature phone numbers,  and dial-up standard A 440 phone numbers;  but there wasn't anything like the internet where anybody could just invite themselves in to start a food fight with verbiage by wire instead of food like the internet is today.  So what was this internet thing in 1971?
