@ins0mniak @Terry they're not gonna make you turn off your AC, they're gonna tell commercial customers to shut things downI used to work at a place that had several machines on site that used so much power they had to notify the utility before turning them on or off. like more power than hundreds of homes. that sort of thing can just be turned off until the weather chills out

@Maroon @ins0mniak @Terry curtailment isn't an involuntary thing. commercial and industrial customers sign contracts saying in exchange for cheaper prices, they may be told to shut certain things down when demand gets too highif the grid is at the point of doing involuntary load shedding things are quite bad. some things *can't* be shut down without causing permanent damage. if you have to choose between shutting down an aluminum smelter and doing rolling blackouts for residential customers, you're gonna choose rolling blackouts
