@sun a lot of the people who came here during the twitter migrations were sold on it being "twitter but not censored", and so they'll always naturally compare it to twitter, and when twitter "gets better" they will abandon itI was sold on this place as being the closest thing I could get to old internet culture, and I'd say it still is, which is one of the reasons I stay

@sun Alt fedi is slowly trudging to the state where you made a node in and helped the network out of, mostly barren. Twitter has always had the massive advantage of being a monopoly in the social networking game so observers + people peer pressured into joining will always go on it and have a look around. My very subjective opinion on the matter is Twitter's userbase only changed by bringing previously banned users back on the site. Twitter in it of itself didn't have to do anything to actually have to compete.

You can pretty much cultivate a great Twitter timeline with smart responding and following. Twitter stopped being so censorious so it's not surprising fedi thinned out. But Twitter's userbase is definitely retarded.

@sun idk, i think fedi is functionally different compared to centralized services, and most people don't care for that. to me fedi more feels like an async irc, which is nice if you are interested in long term interactions that have a bit of depth. centralized services always have the feeling of standing in a limitless crowd of buskers competing for coins.

By the way, I predicted exactly what would happen regarding elon buying out that hellhole. He would TEMPORARILY lift restrictions, allowing some banned users back on the site, and ditch phone confirmation to get anons back. Once they started getting comfy (you are here btw) the restrictions would come back in force, and users will have to engage in increasing humiliation rituals just to continue posting there. Much like last time, there will be a small bump in fediverse usage but niggercattle gonna niggercattle.
