       @bagder Are people downloading the curl source code and recompiling it over and over again for every single HTTP request they make or how can you get to numbers like that? Per day seems absolutely insane.

       @js @bagder distfiles.ariadne.space averages 5-600GB/day in pkgconf downloads 🙃 it is mostly CI jobs which download and build pkgconf, my guess is it is a similar story for curl.

       @ariadne @js it's not the same for us, we only have some 12-15 million tarball downloads per year. This load is primarily scraper bots doing who knows what. I suspect quite a lot of them download the CA cert bundle.

       @js @bagder a lot of it is github and gitlab CI bots anymore.  after that, freebsd ports & gentoo users, then homebrew & linuxbrew, then everyone else.

       @ariadne @bagder I would have assumed there to be more Gentoo users than FreeBSD users, and then only a single digit percentage of FreeBSD users building from source instead of using binary packages.Probably just a small number of users doing extremely stupid things?

       @ariadne @js @bagder As someone who uses neither Ports or Pkg or even FreeBSD... The last time I touched a BSD nobody said anything about pkg, so did I just miss it or is it a relative to my usage, a new thing?Also that's a LOT of bandwidth, gg.

       @TheOneDoc @js @bagder @ariadne Well at least LFS™ is probably less popular than the vast majority of source-based distros.Or at least I hope (partially because I really don't like how it's fill-the-blanks but still chosen-for-you recipes written in a human language, utter waste of time).

       @lanodan @js @bagder @ariadne it exists so people can learn not to use in production 🤷🏿‍♀️Frankly was a good bit of fun watching Chi running through the steps and seeing their understanding grow with each step. Also made the train ride from Milan to Zurich pass really fast.
