       @Quenti We'll know which languages are covered once a model is chosen/settled on and available to test. Supporting more than English is their aim though - the distro is too widely used to be English-only!

       @omgubuntu this is actually useful. I definitely missed it last year when I was recovering from a broken arm and couldn't type. I'd say it can be filed as an accessibility feature.

       @omgubuntu I think this is a pretty normal accessibility feature, and actually most smartphone keyboards already had it built in for something like a decade, running on the device itself.  This tech predates LLM AI stuff you see these days so I don't know why people suddenly started calling this "AI".The same thing in smartphones was never called "AI", it was just voice typing.Anyway there have been occasional times where I wanted this on PC too and confused as to why it didn't exist.

       @omgubuntu @Quenti hopefully! To give an example, I'm a happy user of Ente Photos whose model works mostly in English only, despite the international user base (as you will have noticed of my poor English level). They need to implement a workaround, they say. But speech to text could be different, it works for many languages in many places. I hope Ubuntu can circumvent the issues.

       @vjprema Yeah, there's no real bar on "AI" these days, so the badge gets slapped on a lot of tech that hasn't fundamentally changed in years. Rebrand bog standard algorithmic prediction as "AI" = revolutionary, it seems. Fwiw, the models being considered to power STT in Ubuntu are far closer to a contemporary definition of AI than old dictation tools. E.g., Whisper is a neural-based transformer, trained, etc so not just raw, statistical sequencing earlier transcription models used.
