       If I didn’t already know that that Rationalism/EA/LessWrong was a Get Rid Of Slimy girlS Club for self-obsessed pseudo-intellectual pricks who outgrew the treehouse, I might be more surprised that their stance on AI is “what if I was so clever I thought of a monster under the bed so scary even I got scared”, rather than “maybe it’s bad that the overall Shannon entropy (i.e. amount of meaning that can be conveyed) of recorded information might be decreasing for the first time since writing was invented”.

       @s0 it's interesting that they took their stance on "AI" as imagined / hypothesized by themselves and applied it to a completely different thing simply because corporations slapped "AI" on top of it.For supposedly very rational and smart people they're unbelievably gullible.

       @s0 like, there is no reason at all why they can't be scared of a monster under the bed, and also at the same time realize that it's bad when the corporations dump the unfiltered chemical waste from Monster energy drink production into the water supply. All it takes is understanding that Monster energy drink has no relation to the monster under the bed at all.
