Something quality.Now, to make it worse, make it so the process of getting it is "fair" - a lottery. So people who would normally not care too much are in the lucky early pool. (Clicking like a madman at 10am sucks, but it ensures only the motivated are participating)Now you get someone who wanted it, but not a ton, and yeah it's expensive... but they can buy it and guaranteed flip it on ebay and make a grand? Boom - a new scalper is born.Valve sabotaged themselves if their goal was to get systems into the hands of their actual end-users at the price they set. The fix is boring: pre-orders with a significant deposit *and* scaling production to actually meet day-one demand closer. Maybe restricting those pre-orders to prior direct hardware purchasers - people who bought the steam deck or controller - people invested in the ecosystem. Valve is still thinking like a software company (infinite digital supply) and it shows.
