       while in many ways I think I was born in the best generation to experience being alive I also am deeply disappointed that my generation is failing to make efforts to extend the kindness of experiences such as computing freedoms and a habitable planet to future generations

       yeah boomers may have been hard on millenials for our avocado toasts and things were not as easy from a financial perspective as it was for boomers / genx but also, we've still had it better then genz and also we got to experience a time where computers were exciting, promising things, rather than prisons we built for our kids to suffer inside ofand the irony of ironies is that, recognizing that kids are suffering in these environments, many people in my generation are just trying to make the prisons worseso fucking depressingI hoped we'd do better

       @cwebber @lumi there are places that do give me personally hope. They are few, but maybe the number of people is about the same as the number of people that once were fascinated with tech. There's @Teckids working with kids to help them understand the digital world they live in.

       @cwebber I guess those who saw the potential decades ago aren't the same people turning everything towards enshittification:In addition to scaling by several orders of magnitude - way beyond what works with trusting people behave themselves - combined with growing means to make a business, combined with growing means to influence public opinion and with that elections has put too much strain on systems built for that early vision.
