@lanodan I mean, it's reasonable to have a place where you can converse with people, right, but it's a little less reasonable to go out in the middle of the world and expect that to be safe. I don't figure I'll get yelled at by a rando at the dinner table because dinner is generally people I know being normal, but I can't carry that expectation everywhere.

@lanodan Yeah, people don't want to join a small board with friends in it, they want a global network with everyone in it, but they still want it to act the same. Like, I don't have any issues with people that do whitelist federation, you know, they're just using the same software to build that tiny board with friends on it, but "fedi must conform to my expectations" people are unpleasant rubber dicks.

@p I think after all this time I quite doubt it makes sense to use whitelist federation, except maybe with the expectation that it's an alt account, but so far I've always seen those end up in nasty drama-blowups.And well in my mind whitelist federation was more for like designed-isolated stuff like the social-network-like stuff within corporations and universities.So I'd more recommend people to regroup in stuff like chatrooms, possibly invite-only kind if they want a friendly/safe-space.
