       man ai sympathizers just piss me off so much. they always try to have some dog shit "nuanced" opinion, that usually just is "sure they are garbage at most things but they have some use cases", then describe shit that we've been doing just fine for several years before chatgpt hit the scene like translations or somethingthey have no idea how to handle being so obviously eviscerated when u remind them that "no, bro, that has been something we've been able to do for long before llms in fact we used a normal amount of compute and energy and money to do it even" and then claim you're being a luddite or just plain simple of course when you go on to remind them that all of the real world devastating consequences necessarily come with, they literally just shrug it offhonestly it's making me feel like my energy spent trying to become nicer and give people benefit of the doubt was ill spent; that i was right to quickly determine that most people are clueless and careless and downright insufferable

       @xyhhx@social.treehouse.systems I tried doing all sort of stuff and no matter what I do with AI, its just not there. LLMs are unreliable because they give bad answers, they often fail at basic tasks even if they do it right once, they are completely inefficient algorithms, and even for games it sucks. You want to RP with it? Its repetitive, boring, forgets things, gets facts wrong... it simply is just not there.What pisses me the most is that a lot of the people who defend it are actual software engineers. People who should know better but got lied to by the machine and they believed it. I heard of software engineers confessing having become addicted to the LLM at some point, wtf?

       @enigmatico i mean... im of the opinion that the ethical consequences of using llms is enough to not even try them. i dont entertain arguments of usefulness at all until the so-called externalities are addressed, and local models that are based off the same industrial slop complex aren't any better there

       @xyhhx@social.treehouse.systems Right, but at some point you'd get deceived and you'd stop as you say. Okay, you tried, it doesnt work, stop using it. But no, this people keeps on going rolling with it, and more and more projects are now using AI code, companies keep trying to replace workers with LLMs... wtf is wrong with people!?
