       @Jonny @VIPPER @jimmy @yomiel @pepsi_man this is false, that's half the people killed in Vietnam. the number 35,000 originates from an estimation using weather models of how many people were exposed to sarin gas from destroyed chemical weapon caches in the Gulf War. people just take that number and pretend it has anything to do with deaths from anthrax, something completely unrelated

       @georgia @Jonny @VIPPER @jimmy @meso @yomiel same thing; some modern vaccines (e.g. for flu sometimes) still use weakened versions of the target pathogen. also cowpox was preferred back then because less deadly species in the same genus that cross-conferred immunitythere is one actually deadly vaccine-administration event i know of: 1940s mandatory military yellow fever vaccine that was contaminated and gave a bunch of people hep b. that's a "primitive production methods yielding contaminated product" situation though
