kiou steam version initial thoughts-didn't run into any bugs, otkr dev team (rip in peace to their weekend though)-they copied their business model directly from mahjong soul, which means:-non-default characters are kakin only. guess it's pon nya for me for a while-all sorts of currency to buy all sorts of items that you have no idea what the effects are, which of course are also kakin-only. people aren't going to drop money on things they don't even know the use of. good luck getting people to pony up-someone once replied to the company's tweet (latterly X) about how "this is a gacha game and you didn't even give free rolls? smh" dangling free stuff makes the users have a risk-free chance to try out the entire kakin architecture you built, which would give them a better idea of what you're offering. as it stands the only tangible thing someone would spend money on would be to get a new png so you don't have to use the default pon nya-even the coin currency to buy items for your png is going to be underutilized, because (1) no idea given about the benefits of increasing the bond level of your png, and (2) the png you'd rather spend coins on is paywalled and you don't really want to use it on pon nya either-basically, expect to see everyone using pon nya as their png with the occasional whale. good luck generating revenue rip-but also because they're running on the mahjong soul model, there's no limit to the number of games per day (unlike shogi wars). thankful for that but the worry about their profitability continues-the bell and whistle toggle controls /everything/. turning it off stops the "oute nya" cut-ins but it also hides the strat/castle cut-ins, which at least are of use and would have preferred to have around. maybe in several years' time they'd split it into individual toggles but for now i guess i'll have to bear with multiple consecutive "oute nya"s-i can feel myself stop thinking on assist mode, which is exactly the same thing i encountered with that one other igo app. despite the user presumably evaluating each suggestion it's nudged in a way that you'd just pick one of them as they pop up. would be nice to have a hide toggle during the match to only call it when you really want to solicit suggestions, but for now i'd recommend actually NOT using it often-having byouyomi, even if you don't actually hit it, really helps you to slow down and actually think through a move (although a portion of it was me going "how did i end up in this shit position" after taking multiple assist suggestions). definitely have the potential to have better games than on shogi wars (where you rush through moves just so that you have more remaining time than your opponent)-user's best strat/castle stats are buried within the profile and aren't shown to the opponent during the match, which reduces anxiety about wanting to maintain a best strat (which has given me days of grief in shogi wars)-rating is win count-based like in mahjong soul and not based on performance/elo, so that explained why that one 4dan vtuber was still 8kyuu even after playing for a day; it's not that there's grade deflation, the entire rating system can be ignored (which once again eliminates performance anxiety etc)overall the UX design decisions make kiou a healthier platform than shogi wars, i just don't see how they're going to turn a profit unfortunately lol. use it while the service is still aroundcc @forcedinductionretard @MichiruMichiMi
