       @tj I use Resilio sync to transfer files from phone to pc and vise versa. You may want to use select sync if you have limited space.Power amp is good, VLC works, I use podcast addict.

       @tj I've used Hi-Fi Cast, which usually works fairly well (some recent Android update has made it so that sometimes it drops audio when it first plays a new track).  You can pay a fee to remove ads, but I did it so long ago I forgot how much it was.Any Android phone allows you to plug into the PC, enable "file transfer" on the lock screen, and then you can copy any audio or video files over to the phone and put them in the appropriate folder.

       @tj If you remove the DRM from downloaded Audio books, you can drag those over, too, as MP3s and play with a podcast app (which will save your place when you have to stop).

       @tj Yeah - I put them in a separate folder which I added to the Podcast app (I use AntennaPod), and the folder just shows up as one of the Subscriptions.

       @tj I use Music Folder Player to play music on my Android phone and CX File Explorer to move files to/from my NAS and phone using SFTP.
