       The Phantom Menace is unironically a masterpiece by modern movie standards. Yeah, it can be kind of cheesy and dumb, but it oozed creativity and personality. Modern movies are as dumb or dumber than TPM at its worst, while also being boring, bland and generic. I miss when good movies with actual originality existed, the best modern movies can only dimly ape the classics, there is no capacity for even the slightest spark of creativity and originality in modern Hollywood.

       @DrFell The only movies that I've enjoyed at all since like 2010 or so were at most kind of enjoyable and based off stuff I liked growing up. Nothing that really left a lasting mark.

       @Azur_Fenix The Republic and galaxy as a whole is decadent and in decline. The Naboo are so pussified they don't even have an army, like they're Sweden or some shit. The Gungan barbarians arte the only ones who have literally any fighting capability, and a 9-year-old with a horseshoe up his ass is a more competent fighter pilot than anyone on their whole planet. Yes, it's retarded, but it's also a realistic portrayal of a dying political order.

       @ArdainianRight Phantom menace is pretty bad compared to the original trilogy, which is pretty bad compared to Kurosawa's hidden fortress. Just a gradual sloppening for a gradually browner and more medicated audience.

       @ArdainianRight I’ll go to my grave defending my opinion that The Phantom Menace was a great Star Wars movie. And truth be told it’s my 3rd favorite in the entire franchise. The one and only mistake Lucas made was giving dialogue to Anakin. The kid should have been largely silent throughout the film, which would have 1.) been less of an annoyance, and 2.) would have given the child Vader a mystique appropriate to what he would later become. Other than that it was a magnificent installment.
