the conclusion to draw from the sole rsync maintainer using LLMs to keep up with massive CVE report volume and general maintenance is not "we should KILL this guy with HAMMERS for using slop" and I think you are a bad person if that's your takeawayi have never seen a github issue filled with people so absurdly hostile towards any OSS project before

To add: tridge stepped up after the previous rsync maintainer stopped in 2024 (who took his role as maintainer because he was busy). People are VERY welcome to help out, but they won't, because throwing a hissyfit in a GitHub issue is just so much easier. https://lwn.net/Articles/968732/

Maintainer load is bigger than ever, especially now that every project is getting seven bazillion CVEs reported like every week. Software is not "just done" anymore, like I see some people seemingly believe???Increasing hostility and pressure on people who maintain your shit for free will not get you the results you want. Fucking hell.

@privateger honestly even more than the hostility the number of people that helped drag the issue massively off-topic or just...don't...know...anything is exhaustingi understand wanting to be careful w/ very core software like this but then why doesn't anyone see that as an opportunity to try and help or spend any time discussing the changes themselves, rather than just screaming
