       I must admit, I find "Two Men and a Truck Moving Company" refreshing. I hired them today to move me to my new apartment. The service description on the contract reads "Two men, one truck." No AI. No app. Just call them and you get exactly what it says on the label.

       @mwl Yes. I love movers like that. Just din't expect them to sort boxes well. They lift stuff for money.

       @sungo I label each box in broad-tip sharpie, on front and top, saying what room it goes in, and they do fairly well.

       @mwl Ah yes. You are filling the boxes. Good strategy. I am shit at that so I took to hiring movers who pack as well. One move I ended up with 50 boxes labelled "misc". Good movers otherwise.

       I've had to hire movers multiple times. The trick is to make them want to move your stuff well.Ask them first thing if "big Italian sandwiches" or "a couple big pizzas" are okay for lunch. Then make it happen.Provide a cooler of cold sports drinks. All-you-can-guzzle gatorade goes a long way to keeping them moving.Stay out of their way.Do those three things and they'll bust their asses for you every time.At the end, tip them anyway. Because if you were willing to haul all that crap, they wouldn't be there.

       @mwl the one time I hired immigrants from the HD parking lot to do a move, they busted their butts non-stop for a flat fee, were quite careful, and put off lunch in order to get done more quickly. I think they were mostly interested in getting done and getting home, or onto the next job as quickly as possible.Big contrast to the American movers I hired a couple of times, and the Russian immigrants another time, who were neither fast, nor on-time, nor very willing to wear N95 masks correctly.

       @mwl last time I moved was the first time I had a houseful of furniture (was renting furnished appts before) and I ended up with tendinitis in most of my fingers, even when I was an avid climber back then.Also, in general, be nice to service people. They're basically doing the job you either ddon't want or don't know hownto do, and most of the time they're paid not as good as you.
