       subaru has issues but it's not like he's pining for a woman who hates him or something. Emilia is nice to him from the moment they meet, shows him a lot of charity when he needs it, is generally appreciative of everything he does except for one massive retard moment he has (and the entire last arc of season 1 is as much about redeeming himself and doing right by people who have helped him - not to mention, not running away with Rem just to let them get ruthlessly slaughtered by an evil cult - as it is about chasing Emilia) and she gets dere dere for him in season 2. IDK just watch/read it for yourself without butthurt remfags yapping in your ear.

       Its even great occasionally. That quality bump near ~ep15 was the biggest leap in quality in the middle of the show I ever seen. Never watched it after 1st season though.

       Re:Zero's main 'flaw,' from what I know, is that Subaru is unbearable. It's to the point that the last time I saw people talk about why they like the story, 90% of those that responded said they still watch/read it because they enjoyed watching Subaru suffer. Personally, I was filtered in the first few episodes.

       To me "I watch X because I like seeing the protagonist suffer" from someone who claims to like the work reads more like a slightly humorous way of saying "I like watching the protagonist struggle and overcome incredible odds" but idk maybe some people really do just enjoy the schadenfreude that much.He's certainly not the coolest protagonist out there but as far as isekaislop protags go idk. I think most are far less compelling.

       Subaru is MUCH more bearable in the booksThe first couple books are as much about his inner life as his outward circumstances and the worst part of the show (where Subaru has a meltdown and tries to battle Julius) is probably one of the high points of the books.

       I just finished vol 15 and my biggest complaint is that the drive of the overall story seems to have been lost. The Sanctuary arc was 6 books long, which was way too much. By the end id forgotten why they even went there in the first place. It's easy to forget that while Subaru may spend days or weeks living one day over and over, everyone else only experiences it once. Frankly the biggest weakness overall is that the story has no clear central conflict. "Emilia is participating in the royal selection" is there vaguely in the background to loosely tie everything together but by the end of arc 1 there should have been a central conflict established to drive the story forward, but that conflict is just absent.
