(honestly I wish I could think about living off of donations, but i’m years away from a point where that would be sustainable. BUT! if you’re exceptionally rich, I need a minimum of ~1.4k EUR per month, and I could be your beautiful medieval artist, creating checks notes videos, blogposts and documentation, mostly about old and osbolete tech? it’s a great deal ma’am)

@filmroellchen the main reason why i don’t wanna do YT memberships is how it locks me to the platform. being able to host the videos myself, if I gather a large enough amount of patrons on patreon, I don’t risk google randomly fscking my life overanyhoo, i will consider it :) this is one of my largest dreams right now, if not the largest

@domi i mean you lock yourself on every platform, but consider that it’s (by design) very easy for viewers to subscribe on yti don’t necessarily trust patreon more than google, though the copyright strike problem doesn’t apply over there

@filmroellchen my point is. by uploading to both my own server and youtube, then not depending on youtube for donations, google becomes an OPTIONAL part of my supply chain, one that would impact me negatively if it disappeared, but isn’t an “extinction imminent” kind of eventplaying this as tactical as i possibly can ;)

@domi@donotsta.re @filmroellchen@chaos.social do the POSSE adjacent thing and put exclusive content on your own server. some free (lower effort small bonuses) to convince people to prefer your server over youtube, some paid (extra content) to pay you for itif it works for nebula creators/ltt it can work for you
