       wait why does everyone think it's German? Why did I think it was German? I wonder if it's because there are more Americans stationed in Germany, and they would (try to) bring it back thinking it was German.

       That's a good thought too! And Germans have a reputation for making good chocolate in general which probably adds to it.I just know, from growing up in a military family, being told stories of Kinder eggs as this legendary Germany chocolate that people stationed in Germany couldn't bring back because "they have toys in them". Sort of similar to how the "camel spider" became a thing in the US thanks to the military stationed in the Middle East.
