@josh I was wondering what it would take for you and PPP watch and review Trigun (the 1998 one).It's an anime that can be summed up as spaghetti western Dragon Ball Z.I want PPP's take on the character Wolfwood, who is a priest that uses a combined machine gun and rocket launcher in the shape of a literal cross.The ending is basically a Dragon Ball Z version of a revolver duel.

@ScandiBandit why are animeniggers like thisedit: and for the record trigun was on adult swim so i have seen episodes of it. there's a guy with a crucifix gun, hair guy (bounty of ten billion double-dollars), smart cop girl, and then the bimbo with tits.i cannot name anything that happens except that the hair man goes very serious every episode when he has to killl a bunch of people. i think his brother is the king of the universe and lives in a cloud. there's a train somewhere.that's it.

@Rungle @josh If I remember correctly, from what Josh mentioned once on MATI on how he tried to get into anime, he went to /a/ and asked "what are some animays" and got recommended Lain and the worst moeshit ever.No wonder he hates it if that's what you're recommended, if he had watched Planetes, Cromartie or Cowboy Bepop he might've not had such a negative view on anime.

@ScandiBandit @Rungle actually I watched lain because of the fediverse, /a/ told me to watch lucky star, and I watched watamote because my friend told me it was a crucifixion of Japanese anime culture, which is why I liked it.

@ScandiBandit @Rungle My primary criticism of anime as a medium at this point is that it seems to contextualize all of life and philosophy through the lens of young girls in highschool. It really, genuinely feels like every Japanese person had their life end brutally as soon as they graduated and they don't want to think about anything except going back to highschool and having friends. Anime as a medium is also insanely overtly sexual and creepy for reasons that I am forced to apply to the Japanese people. It's literally "just dey kultcha" to obsess over 13 year old girls panties.Edit: and to belabor the "it's always in highschool english class" point, it's not just that, it's that it's always girls. Girls who don't act like girls. Everyone knows what a teenage girl is, what they are interested in, and how they behave. It's not like in anime. Anime girls are just autistic japanese men morphed into a teen girl. It's inherently uncanny and weird. I don't like it. It gives me the ick.Like genuinely is there actually an anime that people consider a masterpiece that has no underage characters and no creepy sex shit? The most famous animes I can name is shit like Evangalion where the boring kid skeets on his sister while she's knocked out or something. Even the movies I would admit to liking, like Studio Ghibli, are all about underage girls and have weird panty shots. Grave of the Fireflies decides to show illness by having the little girl get a UTI that manifests in frequent on-screen urination.

@josh @ScandiBandit @Rungle I applied your criteria from one of the MATI streams (no sex, fan service, beach episodes, creepiness, etc), and think the only anime that fits is Legend of Galactic Heroes.1/2 tactical spaceship battles, 1/2 philosophical debate between a pseudo-German Empire and a federated democracy over which one works better. It's like a 4X map game in space. The two leads deal with the moral pitfalls of imperialism or democracy (respectively), obviously inspired by the Japanese transition but played out in a universal way. No love story, sexy outfits, high schoolers, fan service, ecchi, or the usual anime tropes. Just guys in uniform doing war and politics.But of course it's not modern, it's 1980s and it shows in both the writing and the animation. There's a remake, but it looks too slick, and rushes too much to be a proper space epic.

Anime for Foid Respectors about a travelling merchant and wolf spirit slowly falling in love as the wolf spirit Holo realises she never wants her journey to her homeland to end if it meant finally leaving Lawrence.

@PunishedD @Rungle @ScandiBanditEdit: My point with pointing this out is that, while western shows often have nudity, it is not ubiquitous. It is absolutely ubiquitous in Japanese media. It is not a show without nudity. Even Sailor Moon has weird nude silhouettes in the opening.
