good morning, fattyverse! do you know what day it is..? :ablobcatbongo: i am just projecting because i feel fat this week. :blobcatmelt: i dunno why i've been so freaking hungry all week. in totally unrelated news, i have just the worst headache ever right now. it's been going on for at least 12h and it endured the entire night of sleep and quite a few ibuprofen, so now we're going to see if caffeine manages to beat it into submission. also, my neighbor is drunk and has been hollering since last night, so that's not helping. blaaaah. one of those where you stand up and the throbbing makes you grab your forehead. hopefully i am dying.i don't feel coherent enough to find a proper morningpost image today, so i've just grabbed this random pic from my folder of my elden ring character. i played elden ring! i didn't.. really like it that much, haha. it's just too much. it's too big. it's too easy to miss important stuff. it's impossible to follow character quests without consulting a guide. i played 99% of it blind and i know i missed loads of stuff as a result. the graphics were pretty. there are a lot of builds to be made. but i'd still rather play other from games rather than finish it. right now, i'm like 50% of the way through the SotE DLC and i wandered into the messmer fight and i still haven't done like half of the DLC map, so i just can't be assed. i'll finish it someday. i've been trying to get through this game for years.i did replay DS3 multiple times, though. it's still such a better game. fight me about it. my most recent character was str/vit and she was such a fun bruiser mammy to play. she could carry three huge weapons at a time along with a greatshield, and she just bashed through everything that came her way. what a great game. i wish i was playing it right now instead of working.anyway, i hope your day goes well and that you are able to do the thing so that later you can do a weekend without worries. :agooglerainbowheart:

@theblessing I never could get through DS3. I have this inane need to find every sparkly piece of disappointment strewn about the map. Some mangled part of my brain screams at me to break every box, to look over every ledge and in every corner on the off chance there is some secret or piece of loot i don't need. Just felt exhausting with how cluttered that game is.

@colonelj @Ilu yeah i would have to agree with colonel; i found the DS games vastly LESS confusing in that regard than elden ring. the FOMO while playing elden ring is wild because the game doesn't consistently reward you with exploration and has waaaaay too many small random areas to be explored, whereas with DS3, it will 99% of the time reward you for doing that tiny bit of extra exploration in a linear game.

@colonelj @theblessing @Ilu The Souls style really does work best as a small curated experience. Keeping it tight and segmented allows the the team to produce much more densely packed gameplay and for the player to organically create their own diagetic narrative as they play through the game.Elden Ring's open world may seem like it presents many more opportunity to explorate and curate your own experience in a much larger world, but counter-intuitively it feels smaller as there is less to do. The open world just feels like a time sink to navigate padding out the playtime as you navigate towards specific places. For example Dark Souls can be completed insanely quickly. I recall seeing @All_bonesJones finish the game in well under an hour. However for the average player the highly interconnected world with muliple loop backs and shortcuts is, in and of itself, a puzzle. A significant part of the gameplay as repeated playthroughs slowly unwind the structure of the game. Elden Ring simply doesn't feel the same. Despite having more content, more endings, more things to do, if feels smaller in that regard. The world of Elden Ring feels like a checklist of things to do to beat the game. Dark Souls itself is a puzzle to be unraveled as you try to understand how each part fits together.I don't know if that makes sense. It's just a sort of vague impression of how the series feels to me..
