       @ariadne i doubt you're a fan of java for other reasons, but i think their packaging system piggybacking off of domain names was a good idea.

       @ariadne tangentially what would you think of a system like Julia's, where packages have global UUIDs and project-local human-readable names? I ask because I might be building a language package manager soon and so far this is the model I like the most. it's ok if you don't have an opinion of course(for the record Julia also has a flat name registry, but it's only used when first adding a dependency. you type add X and it looks up X in the registry and adds the UUID it finds to your manifest. after that if X changes in the registry it doesn't matter to you. I will probably tweak this to be hierarchical though.)

       @hatzka ehh, i think its okay but you might want to use something other than UUIDs, something cryptographic instead
