       @mwl I gather you have pet rats - any advice you'd be willing to share?Our nine year old daughter wants to add rats to her menagerie that already includes a greyhound, three silkie hens, and (temporarily) her Grandma's little dog while Grandma is recovering from surgery.

       @duncan_bayne Keeping rats require about an hour a day of human interaction, plus cage cleaning etc. If she can't commit to that, don't get them!

       @mwl She spends much of her time with the existing animals - so I doubt that'll be an issue. More concerned about "things I wish I knew about rats but learned the hard way".We had pet rats as Uni students but I've forgotten almost everything about them, except for how they used to sit on our shoulders while we were working ❤️

       @duncan_bayne she'll have to be VERY gentle with them. Treat them like tiny dogs and allow them to make their own decisions.Litter train them. Feed them Oxbow Essentials rat food plus table scraps. Lots of drinking water.They need more room than you'd think. I recommend a double Critter Nation cage. Add shelves, ropes, and hides.Before getting rats, find a vet that handles them. It's harder than you'd think.That's it off the top of my head. Specific questions get specific answers.
