@Deadlift i had this till the 2010s, static vering amount of white and noisiness, some channels very loud, usually at 4 am infomercials would end and theyd go to static, spanish channels you werent supposed to see would have static on top, sometines youd vaguely see some channels in the static, it varries with weather. the same behavior is replaced by coloured squares mostly pink, but youd have to have a digital converter attached to a coathanger

@Deadlift think my grandparents used to have a wooden tv, maybe my great grandmother, but those are probably from the 70s or 80s, i mostly remember the grey plastic tube

kinda reminds me of this gamecube screen accessory I got because my brother's friend said he would build me a custom portable gamecube as long as I got all the parts together lol (he never did, and he was prolly bullshitting)I remember fiddling around with its AV connectors and managed to get it hooked up to my N64 and I felt like a goddamn genius.

I don't remember that at allIn the late aughts my brothers and I had a phase of watching people on youtube who built custom handhelds of home consoles.my brother is still a tad autistic about that shit and I guess there's whole companies online that make these things. He got this cool gameboy looking thing that runs all sorts of PS1/N64 games, plus anything prior to thatCute bartender I used to work with had something similar and let me play this Pokemon Emerald rom hack on it. Got into a gym leader battle and I was drunk and had to make sure I won and it was really scary

Yeah there used to be a lot of modded handheld content before all the emulation machines and pocket analogue stuff came out. Idk if that kind of content is still popular or not. The PS1 one was interesting because that model came out I think after PS2 came out so it actually says "PS ONE" on the console. Wii had some weird 3rd party portable screens, but I don't think Nintendo actually made one for it.

I lost interest in making a portable gamecube because I only had so much allowance I could save up, and the 3DS was like 9 months away from coming out so I pivoted to wanting that. I remember it being baffling that the thing reportedly had a joystick of some kind and I was confused how you could make a clamshell fold device with a joystick sticking out lol

I bought the original DS when it came out, but I never owned a 3DS. I ended up getting into 3DS when the emulators eventually came out. Both those systems have so many awesome games, it's too bad Nintendo just doesn't do a portable or home console anymore and slapped it together into Switch which is like a worse version of both lol.

I hate the Switch handheld modeIt's too wide, too thin, joysticks suck, idk how anyone would want to take that thing outside the home. I only use mine docked. when Zelda TotK came out I splurged on a pro controller because I was not gonna use those drifty ass joycons like I did for BotW
