       that's how these trends always happen. people get swept up in what everyone else is saying, get it into their heads that the way things are now is the way they'll always be, and then - once the true human cost and sheer aggregate foolishness that led up to the thing's proliferation become obvious and the consensus shifts once again - they'll memory-hole their past opinions and have Always Been Opposed To The Thing. it's like individualized liberal triangulation brain

       @mira same 😭 😭 like I saw it happen in the other direction in real time with COVID. liberals went from "we keep us safe, anti-maskers GTFO," to literally crossing the aisle to join the anti-maskers, the moment someone gave them permission to do so. and now they only seem to talk about COVID lockdown in the context of how traumatic it was for them.
