       My employer, like so many others, has been forcing the use of hallucination machines. During a meeting recently we were talking about using it, and I referred to it as "it".Obviously, it is proper English to do so. But, one coworker was shocked by this and asked me why I used that word. I calmly explained that it is a large very flawed statistical model and nothing more, so "it" is the appropriate word.I think that blew their mind. Their reaction was just silence.I miss actual intelligence

       @minego my zoologist friends at uni were carefully instructed not to anthropomorphise animals. AI is even riskier, as we may start to care about it, and that will definitely be a selling point. 💀

       @tjbutt58 @minego Yes, students are often still indoctrinated to view non-human animals as automatons, notwithstanding decades of research proving their feelings, emotions, thoughts and capabilities of tool creation, tool use, and planning.

       @janneke Despite this thread focusing on the plight of animals, wherein the debate centers over whether they are respected as life forms in their own way, the question for me remains whether or not we humans can be afforded the respect we deserve and not be treated like a corporation’s chattel in the quest to use AI. @tjbutt58 @minego

       @minego "A large very flaved statistical model", if you added, "not very good at understanding statistics" you'd have described the human brain!The difference is our is larger and has more connections than time to fill it with experiences, the artificial ones have massive experiences packed in 1/100th the space (for now) and the potential to generate as much experiences as the size increases. Plus agents might have intentions in the form of generating subgoals like surviving...We are cooked 🫠

       @minego also Geoffrey Hinton says we shouldn't take this with superficiality and not call them Hallucinations if it's about language but confabulation edit: and his point was the memory error of reconstructing facts based on plausibility makes them more like us, and not less. We are "hallucination" biomachine, after all.
