       starbucks used some AI horseshit to try to do inventory counting in stores and after 9 months they scrapped it because they couldn't get it to work reliablyin the time I've been writing this I thought of three (now four (now five)) ways to do this that have fuckall to do with AI. there are probably dozens off the shelf solutions they could've bought

       @hazlin this is where you do something that actually works and just put a veneer of AI on there. what do investors know? nothinguse RFID tags for the inventory and then have an AI "assistant" giving workers reminders or something. put an ipad on the wall with a goofy mascot. completely harmless and out of the way

       @deprecated_ii I agree.Generally, I think trying to do a pure, AI/camera/Lidar solution wont work.As even a person would have trouble tracking inventory, being able to move freely in the space and examine everything.If a person cannot do it, then an AI cannot do it.

       The real reason tech bros have such a hard on for AI and full automation is because, if their dreams are fully realized, they can zero out all labor costs and maybe, just maybe, their new toys will figure out a way for them to live forever.  Maybe by downloading their brains into some kind of computer, allowing them to become deathless cyber gods.All the talk of increased efficiency and innovation is smoke blown up the public's ass.
