       I don't actually know kanji. I just write the word I wanna say in romaji and whatever mozc selects for me is probably the right kanji.

       @SuperDicq That's the native way of doing it. Many don't _really_ know half of the kanji they use; it's all autocorrect and IME these days anyway.

       @Phobos@eientei.org Honestly the biggest shortcut you can take learning Japanese. Just don't fucking bother with kanji, just learn how to speak and read.

       @SuperDicq I mean, yeah, depending on what your goals are. If you're aiming to be a translator or author or the like, then absolutely, learning the language fully is an advantage; but otherwise, fuck learning all of those moonrunes. Getting a feel for the flow and overall structure of the language, and then some basic runes on top is basically good enough for everyday life.

       @Mamako @Suiseiseki @SuperDicq The reality is that many natives (though I'm not exactly in the mood to pull up proper numbers) aren't exactly masterclass literate. There's a reason why certain popular authors are renowned for their literary prowess, and subsequently why many don't bother reading their works or find their works "tiresome" to try and read.There's so many fucking kanji and shit that even your average native Japanese don't know half of the "common" but somewhat rarely used kanji.Though likewise, there's plenty of English words I don't know until I look them up. The Japanese kanji-set just got that very same problem times like a hundred.
