       @woof I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't want it to go through traditional email channels. I want it to have the semantics of email. For all I care, it can be a signal app where we write email instead of messages. I just want it to have one of MLS/Double-Ratchet (or something equally strong and vetted) and have that as the underlying encryption while the actual interface itself is a mail compose window.

       @innocentzero @woof https://chatmail.at is not traditional email .... It even can use http to transport messages between servers these days, and enforces e2ee messages across the federated "relay" network.  In #chatmail, servers have no "accounts" or any private data, and they are also not a source of "identity" which only lives on your device(s), and can make use of multiple and changing relays for messages transport. But no discussion needed if you prefer to exclude it out of hand. Cheers.

       @delta @woof I think I phrased it badly.I understand deltachat's architecture, and I understand that it doesn't use traditional mailservers. I should have said that I don't need traditional email addresses, which seems to be what everyone's interpreting when reading my toot and recommending deltachat.If I understand it well, deltachat, by design, is an instant messenger. Like Signal or Whatsapp or <insert messenger>. That's fine.Deltachat's features are amazing, certainly! I especially love the distinction between PGP and GnuPG highlighted in your docs/faq. It's a really good thing for what you're accomplishing, that's IM.[1/...]

       @delta @woof When I say 'mail like interface', I mean a compose window. Long form prose. Plain text. It's more from a writing things down POV. My entire vision here is long form prose. Doesn't matter how we federate and communicate. The identifier can be my activitypub handle, or my atproto DID, or maybe even my email address. Perhaps something like a signal username even. Doesn't matter. What matters is1) E2EE2) Long form prose communicationIt was really an aesthetics preference as an occasional writer x software person.I hope my right-off-the-bat rejection makes sense. I feel deltachat is the wrong interface, nothing else. The protocol's still amazing, and I really admire your work! I hope there are no hard feelings in the back and forth.
