Any tips for Octopath Traveler? I didn’t realize what a big game I was getting myself into. And maybe not a very easy one. I know there’s a few approaches but I’ll probably work on all the character stories at once instead of 4 at a time, and maybe just rotate in lower level characters as I play or when I do their quests.

@aceattveg Octopath takes notes from old style Japanese RPGs, so it can be brutal, but rewarding. All the same, level your characters as you go. All of them. You'll be glad you did at the end.

I have a full party of four now but the boss battle for Olberic’s Chapter 1 really beat the hell out of me and is making me question whether I want to go through a really tough RPG right now. The healing items are powerful but I used them like a crutch and felt like I was wasting them. I’m going to do some grinding before looking for the next character.

@aceattveg I don't actually remember it being that hard, but also I'm used to the mechanics it uses because the game was made by the same team who did 4 Heroes of Light, Bravely Default, and other games in that series that I've all played. I know how Tomoya Asano's brain works. A typical DPS/Tank/Healer type party build with a spread of weapons/elements should be fine. Guarding for a few turns and then stacking up attacks on weak points in a one turn burst is the key mechanic to break enemies.
