       @tj The best thing about a Gmail acct is you can sign up for multiple accounts on other sites using the same addy. say it's sizzletron@gmail.com. You can sign up to, say, X with it. And then you can sign up for another one using the same acct by putting a period in sizzletron somewhere.  And you can keep doing it until all such combinations are exhausted. Gmail will dispense with the period and read it as sizzletron. But the other sites just see a unique addy each time.

       @tj have always had Android, I never use the Gmail address or any of the Google apps. The ecosystem is rich enough that there is a non-Google alternative for practically everythingI like how quickly app and system updates work compared to the Apple devices I encounter, even on relatively low end hardwareAm not trying to be evangelical, hope your switch goes smoothly

       @tj You don't need a google account to use android. Install this app, It can block system apps from using the internet even without root. https://trackercontrol.org/It has granular controls btw, you can block just the trackers, ads or everything from any app
