@sun @quad i still buy and sell stuff on it. used marketplaces just kinda require somebody to actually be selling cool shit though. which is probably less likely as everyone is permanently working overtime yet poor somehow

@sun Well, for me it's the opposite. Ebay used to be useless, nobody on ebay were willing to ship to Norway, or if they were the shipping would be like $100+Then all the chinese sellers started popping up and shipped free to Norway. Still not great though, at that point ebay was basically just a worse alternative to AliExpress.But during the past few years, more non-chinese sellers have started shipping stuff to Norway, often with affordable or free shipping. So for me ebay has finally become a useful site after having been borderline useless for 15 years.

@quad that's great and valuable, it's just unfortunate in a way because the auction stuff is still needed but it's been greatly de-emphasized. I'm in japan now and yahoo auctions is a real online auction site and it's been great.

@sun Auctions just aren't really a thing in Norway afaik.As mentioned, ebay used to never ship to Norway.The local alternative (finn.no) lets you list stuff with a price and I guess you could message a seller to lowball them, but that's mostly the closest you get to an auction.The used market in Norway just generally sucks imo

Last item I sold got damaged in shipping. The guy claimed USPS wouldn't cover it, which I said couldn't be true. eBay sided with them, made them a return label, which shipped it to an address I haven't lived at in 13 years! eBay refused to refund me. I had to go to my bank to force a charge back, and I think they just paid it instead of charging back to eBay, which kinda just made me more angry.I stopped using eBay for a while after that, but there are just some parts I can't find anywhere else and I don't want to go back to Amazon (who I haven't used since 2016). Mercari requires uploading your photo ID to sell there, so fuck them.I think I'm only going to sell things on Craigslist now.

Interesting observation but Craigslist stopped allowing Backpage type ads here and I stopped hearing people mention it. Haven't heard of it locally in easily 10+ years

It literally is the only decent platform there is, at least in the U.S.Craigslist is conclusively dead.Amazon is extremely restrictive in what it allows to sell, and I mostly sell gun parts.Buyers at Facebook Marketplace are as bad as buyers at Craigslist were before it died. Maybe even worse, in line with the overall dumbening of the public with time. And, it's restrictive too, at least officially. Hoodrats easily push their solvent traps there, because they don't care.
