       a fun evolution of the virtual OS museum (https://www.virtualosmuseum.org/) idea would be to set it up so you can run software from any of the emulated platforms "rootless" like a native app window in your modern desktop OS

       @joe a while ago i got excited about this idea of "rootless" shared-wm operating systems to the point that i hacked up qemu to expose the host window management to the guest os using a virtual device.  i implemented support for it in serenityos to test it out (see attached screenshot w/ serenity browser overlapping linux windows) but then didn't really do anything further with it.  i still think it's a really interesting idea, though!

       when people argue for consistency in computer environments as an absolute, i sometimes think of jane jacobs and her argument that urban environments are best when they're layers of old and new buildings mixed together. we have enough generations of software now that it'd be interesting to take that attitude to our computer environments. and there's a lot of old software that could still be useful if it were still readily accessible
