@hn100 @cstross And AI doesn’t learn. Yes, you can add alot more context whereby the AI agent performs better and improve the result, but a person at some point will be able to take over the task instead of being an assistent.

@hn100 the article seems to take one quote as basis for the title: "For my team, the cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees"That doesn't say that it's better or worse, just that one number is bigger than the other. Is that because the fired so many people? Is the compute replacing people of the same, less or more value? Not mentioned.That makes it for me too early to cheer for the death of widespread ai.

@hn100 technology of any sort typically is, but the cost just gets passed onto the consumer, giving its owners a competitive advantage. Voilà, everything is more expensive. If they actually paid for their toys themselves the world wouldn't be so fucked.

@hn100 That was my assessment from the start of the hype. Like every tool I've seen that promised it would let you develop things "10x faster", they always tend to speed up routine tasks at first, but then you have to hack around their limitations to such an extent that not only do you lose all the gains you appeared to make at the start, but you get so bogged down that ultimately it costs you money. Always been like that, no sign of it changing with AI either.

@hn100 One problem is that business efficiency is always defined by how many people are not required. Not by the results of good management and sustainability. We will "invest" in equipment, but investing in people is considered waste. We view people like we did the redwoods, a resource of intelligence to exploit until we use it up, then move on. Corporations can never replace a community. There is none. Just extraction.
