I used to maintain a good faith belief in these people. Thinking that even if I disagree with many many parts of how they do things, in the end we still share the common goal of wanting to make the linux desktop a better system to use.Clearly this is not the case anymore. This is a blatant attempt of forcing their corpo views into the linux ecosystem. There is no good faith anymore, there seemingly never has been any god faith. firefox and chromium dont use their own sandbox systems when running in a flatpak!last time i checked firefox just straight up disables it and chromiums sandbox is replaced with a version that uses flatpak-spawn

@rose The only reason I haven't tried postmarketOS in earnest is that they based themselves on Alpine to keep things lightweight, only to let the Flatpak and systemd monoliths roam unchallenged: because it's supposedly easier than adapting software to run on MUSL2 or re-implementing the useful parts of systemd on openrc (respectively).On that note: do you think it'd be good if the MUSL2-based distros banded together and agreed on a common package format (not necessarily as the default), or would they repeat Flatpak's problems?I suppose that a Flatpak repo with MUSL2 packages and a more clearly defined policy for vetting packages could work, to some extent.(PS: I don't know how Fedora's flatpak repository does things, but Flathub.org's FAQ doesn't seem to care about the idea of people using their platform to distribute malicious versions of popular applications)

do you think it'd be good if the MUSL2-based distros banded together and agreed on a common package formatnah, distribution of software is kept at the hand of the linux distro (hence the name :p ), the issue isnt really that there are many package formats, but rather that a lot of software doesn't properly run on musl, which flatpak solves by essentially just using a glorified glibc chroot, which every distro can dothe closest I think we could get that would be nice is some singular generic software that just sets up a glibc chroot either based on the glibc version of the distro shipping it or some generic glibc system (i.e. void musl ships void glibc, alpine ships some different glibc based distro)

@moses_izumi @rose most distros send patches upstream whenever they can and upstream accepts themwhen upstream doesn't, it's usually a copy-paste of patches across distros by manual "let's see what $other_distro is doing over there"

Flatpak doesn't allow disabling the sandbox, you're only allowed to poke holes in it to give the application further access, but its not like snap where the entire sandbox is removedCC: @karebu@social.karebu.gay
