@switchingsoftware @protonprivacy I think it depends on the tracking.You can track sources and campaigns without giving up user privacy, ex. I use #GoatCounter https://www.goatcounter.com/ and no gdpr banner is requested.If the tracker is GAnalytics... well is a different story.I think the proposal could be something in the middle.

@switchingsoftware @protonprivacy The mail reads to me like an affiliate program. That wouldnât track users (or ar least not more than clicking any other link)? It lets Proton track that you provided the link, but I donât see an impact on user privacy.

@moehrenfeld It depends on what the tracking links look like. There might be a third-party ad network or statistics server involved.@protonprivacy can already see that a link is coming from us by looking at the "referer" HTTP header that is logged by the default configuration of all major webservers.The fishy part is that they offer bribe money and a "free" subscription for a year.

@switchingsoftware @protonprivacy Hmm, getting the product for free and some kickback if you bring customers towards their service is how affiliate programs normally work I would say. Itâs not inherently evil. It carries the risk that people think you mention them because they pay you. But thatâs a reputation risk on your side, not a problem for your readers as such.
