       Like, I know what's going on, so I generally keep my mouth shut because I'm not going to contribute anything productive to the discussion without offending people who don't know better, but it makes me legit mad how the word "datacenter" became turbo-derrogatory in just a few years thanks to ai bros.

       I mean, this instance is in a datacenter. Yours is likely to. So is every cool and useful webbed site you've ever seen. And I want to believe in humanity and trust that everyone knows the difference, but I know for a fact a lot of people who previously never though of the concept will come out of this decade forever triggered by the mere mention of the word.

       LLMs and their prophets, much like fascists (in fact, they are techno-fascists), have a tendency to steal and usurp words, icons and concepts for their own vile means. Often ruining them forever to the point where it's useless to discuss nuance because you cannot trust that anyone you're going to be discussing with is doing so in good faith and not holding a fascist agenda.

       @Deiru I'm pretty sure "datacenter" always referred to buildings dedicated to hosting tons of servers, never to people's personal servers where they host shit. Like, if you have a VPS then you're hosting on a datacenter, but if you're hosting on a server that lives in your closet that is absolutely not a datacenter

       @reiddragon @Deiru Most instances tend to be VPS or colocation in such buildings.Which is really just because ActivityPub chose a fundamentally broken model of interaction (server-centric).

       @lispi314 @Deiru ok but my point is that even if you host in a datacenter, your server is never *the* datacenter, it's at most hosted inside of one.
