@0x00string The story claims the intervention doesn't skewer the PC itself, only the external DMA card. So, if you're not cheating, this isn't an issue. That said, yeah, I'm sure we'll see some lawsuits.

@AAKL is the dma card not their property? is that necessary to do? you really cant foresee any situation where they destroy property they didnt mean to?you think, in the first place, that is acceptable for a private company to decide to destroy the property of their customers, even if those customers are violating the eula, did that agreement include allowing a company to brick your private property? youre really okay with this?

@0x00string @AAKL oh, i don't like kernel mode anti cheat drivers too, but as far as i can tell, they aren't doing anything to the *pci dma card itself*there may even be a way to undo what they did without a windows reinstall but people just haven't figured that out yet, given a windows reinstall fixes it its probably some obscure (set of) registry entries somewhere

@0x00string @AAKL if they had been upfront about it, and by that i mean a confirmation dialog saying "oh this hardware was detected, you can't play without these security features enabled, if you click yes we will enable them for you, here's a page on our website saying how to disable them", rather than just silently enabling the relevant security features and not even saying what they did and laughing about it after the fact?if they actually thought about consent then yes it would have been ok

@Rairii @AAKL that wouldnt be the same then, that would be significantly more acceptable because they would not be forcing an arbitrary change onto the hosts of people who happen to have installed their game, making it the users choice, same as when they warn you they are going to install a kernel module bug parade in order to tell if youre using an aimbot in fortnite or whatever the fucki will surmise from what youve said here that, no what they did was not okay in your eyes.ill say it again, if my neighbor did this, i would drag it back out of them. the only reason there has been no domestic dispute call is because a corporation did it.
