       I was today years old when I learned that the inch notation on image sensors does not reference inch directly, but rather the equivalent of the image diameter on an 1" vidicon tube (which is about 16mm, so a 1" digital sensor has a diagonal dimension of 16mm, not 25.4mm 🤯)

       @azonenberg and looking at tables of image sensors, 1" diagonal width sensors indeed are 16mm (+-1mm because why not)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format?wprov=sfti1#Table_of_sensor_formats_and_sizes

       @azonenberg checked with a modern Omnivision sensor and it seems to also reference 1” as 16mm, the imperial system is amazing
