       @mjg59 that's the clever sort of hacks I kept finding in glibc (and also uclibc) which pushed me in the direction of musl

       @ariadne @mjg59 Eh, valid-but-unusual settings in resolv.conf will make musl generate invalid DNS packets. You win some, you lose some.(Edit: I assume; it was WONTFIX in 2018 or 2019, so I assume they kept their word and haven't fixed it, but it's been long enough that I should probably re-check.)
