Touhou is entirely some guy making whatever he wants out of passion for mythology and random shit he's heard over the years. A lot of series that try to do a "thing but cute girls" niche are corporate projects, gacha or multimedia or otherwise. None of those kinds of things would ever have the audacity to introduce anywhere near as silly or niche of things as ZUN does.Now I'm not gonna give tons of shit to series that try those gimmicks merely for existing, but eventually favoritism and popularity will rear their heads and the series will pivot because of that. Marketing minds need something to market, and they control those corporate projects more than any director that has a passion.
