       I watched IWP9 live stream this year again and it was more often much worse than I expected. It was extremely painful at times. The amount of slopification is staggering.

       One dude literally just concatenated his youtube uploads and put it out as a "talk".Another makes a DB with zero understanding of anything related to DBs. A math professor reinventing everything from first principles as something novel, as if nobody has done exactly this years before.The list could go on.

       @sigrid it was brutal, to be there in person and listen to the conversations. I don't know how far deeper into the woods of computers I need to escape to to be done with this shit, but one fortunate thing I noticed, every younger person attending the conference(there was a bunch of UBC and UVIC students) were super critical of all that and wouldn't have it, which, was a breath of fresh air.

       @neauoire @sigrid It's a community effort and requires making sure the people willing to lob the spear and push slopist out of the community are supported. It is an honest to god never ending upstream battle against the stuff. I probably would have burned out if the catlang discord wasn't already strongly anti-LLM. Tell people you are thankful they said something about some slop, because it is so. fucking. exhausting. and slopist will try their damnedest to make you feel crazy for speaking out.Because you aren't just fighting against slop, but the very dynamic of tech culture (regardless of how niche the area). To quote myself from the catlang discord:These systems are highly corrosive to any community that allows them. They will be gatekept accordingly.        @sigrid@ftrv.se My own involvement with anything to do with iwp9, 9fans and the p9f ended with this conference. I've lost any hope of Ori's appeals to sanity ever going through. Going forward, I'm not letting any 9fans code in our repos, and I would rather we made our own iw9f conference. Half of the talks over the past years were from us anyway.

       @sigrid @neauoire If I may ask: What do you think about the “Principia Softwarica” project by Yoann Padioleau? I think it has an interesting appeal, but my enthusiasm is quite reserved by the recent use of a bloody LLM by the author. It seems to be used “only” for translation but I still have a very bad feeling about it.

       @fyrfaras @sigrid I've tried reading it, it's unreadable, it's clear that every single sentence was generated. It makes for an extremely dry artifact where you'll have a page or two of meaningless empty drivel, and then 10 pages of code with light annotation merely explaining in english what the code is already explicitly doing, without a connecting thread. It's extremely abrupt, I can't imagine anyone willingly going through all this.
