good morning! :agooglesun: i almost went with an aesthetic image, but i decided to use this one instead because it's one of @Vin03 's favorites and most things i do are to please him. it's what he gets for encouraging my nerd shit.i've watched a lot of new movies in my absence. i finally saw No Country For Old Men and i thought it was really good! anton chigurh is a GREAT villain, he really reminds me of the evil snail who is always slowly and steadily coming for you. my bestie knows my taste in men and she was like, "oh don't worry, he gets fully naked in this movie" and i could not have been more disappointed to see that it was like the least sexy scene in the entire movie. i thought javier bardem was a lot sexier in Mother!, even though that movie was pretty goddamn terrible. i'm still never going to complain about an angry hate fuck with a hot spaniard. uwuwhat else? Bodies Bodies Bodies, that one was really fun and very goofy. Saint Maud is a treasure. i watched and thoroughly enjoyed Hereditary, and then Midsommar INSTANTLY shot up to the top of my horror movie list, along with the original Wicker Man. what a flick!! i was also introduced to Redline, which is an absolute treasure of animation and was extremely entertaining to watch.i also had a holocaust summer and watched both Schindler's List and The Zone of Interest while on ketamine. i enjoyed both of them, but zone of interest was definitely a better and much more sobering movie, really an interesting watch unless you're going to be extremely gay about it, which i know the fedi is because i know you guys. :jewsatanic: but if you're able to evict the people living rent-free in your head, pretty interesting stuff. even schindler's list was a lot better than i was expecting, i found the story very interesting despite all the hand-wringing the the final act.¿qué más? well, i watched a lot of other movies in a different genre, but i think i'm going to need a whole morningpost to ramble about those. :ablobeyes: maybe mañana, we'll see. i don't know if you guys are cultured enough for that discussion yet.anywaaay, happy jewsday! ✡️ i hope your day is going well and you are being very productive. just like i will be now.

@theblessing @Vin03 No Country for Old Men is one of my all time favorites. I'm glad you could experience it; it absolutely gripped me in a way that most movies don't really work for me. As for Schindler's List I remember enjoying it but i don't remember anything about it now.Happy :jewsatanic:sday :lainsmile:

@FailurePersonified @Vin03 NCFOM was one my bestie kept urging me to watch, and i always dig in my heels whenever anyone does that. i started off watching it with a HUGE attitude because the beginning all just like a bunch of grimy dudes larping in the desert and i was so mad, but then pretty much as soon as the chase starts, i just got really wrapped up in the story and the pacing is so good that the movie just flies by.

@theblessing @Vin03 memes aside. I really think of No Country for Old Men mostly as a Character Study more than something that says anything particularly important. But that's just my low iq take. :senko_hm: I just remember having to watch Schindlers List in school. I think you have a point though. if you let anything live rent free in your head long enough, you risk knowing so much about the thing that you just become the thing. That's why I just stick to hating niggers, as I can never be a nigger.

@dt_oid @Vin03 HE IS THOUGH. he just like calmly walks through entire buildings shooting everything in his path. there's one part where lily wellen is trying to escape in a truck and crashes, and he's hiding and watching like a mirror or a reflection or something and just sees chigurh silently and slowly moseying in his direction, looking completely unfazed by everything that's just happened. IT'S VERY SPOOKY. i'd be curious to read the book, i've heard it's good.but yeah. redline was really a delight. it was actually the same @Vin03 who got us to watch it, and i was really kind of copping an attitude beforehand because it looked like Man Shit, all big burly dudes and racecars, but despite it not being my genre at all, it was just so fun and made with so much love and passion, it's impossible not to find it endearing. visually a delight, the dub is good, the music is good, the HUMOR is good, the worldbuilding is good. really an excellent little movie.

@theblessing @Vin03 yeah he's one of the most compelling villains in any story. One of my favorite parts is after he's shot. He's so methodical and efficient with everything he does. He takes a few days to recover because he knows he has the time. Stone cold shit

@dt_oid @Vin03 YEAH. and the coin flip scene, just the dynamics at play, some really effective film making with a very well-written and well-acted character. i know that scene is so famous, but it's for good reason. also the part where lily wellen is waiting in a hotel room for him and he just sees the shadow of chigurh's shoes silently appear behind the door and then the light goes off, OOH SO SPOOKY.

@yukarihinata @Vin03 i agree, you see a lovely character study of the sociopath, the titular old man watching the world change around him, and i guess.. the guy who lets obsession ruin his life? the movie feels very anachronistic, which seems appropriate given the theme. i think i would probably have enjoyed schindler's list a lot less if i was forced to watch it. it was VERY long and i was VERY high for it. (that helped.) honestly what i hated most about it was the spielbergyness of it, which i don't really know how to explain. like.. manufactured tense moments just to add some suspense when it wasn't needed. but it prominently features liam neeson and ralph fiennes and i especially love me some ralph fiennes and they both kill it in their roles.

@theblessing @Vin03 I can tolerate spielberg when it isnt such a heavy handed topic and yeah it is kind of hard to see it as anything more than propaganda. At the same time, if it is craftfully made I can see past it being made craftily.

@deadheat @Vin03 @yukarihinata all i knew about schindler's list going into it was that my bestie told me, "it's got a young ralph fiennes, you're going to love that," and i was so fucked up for this movie that when schindler showed up, i thought THAT was ralph fiennes and i was like, "damn, he's a lot taller than i thought. but yeah, he's great!" and then the goeth character showed up and i was like, "whoah, THAT guy looks like ralph fiennes TOO. he looks even MORE like ralph fiennes than ralph fiennes does! maybe this was intentional casting, like they wanted the two characters to mirror each other visually since they're basically like foils?? 🧠 i know my bestie wanted me to be excited about schindler, but i'm kind of digging whoever is playing this crazy german dude, i'm going to have to look him up after.. 👀" and then three hours later, i found out that apparently liam neeson was in the movie.

@theblessing @Vin03 I remember when I first started the film I was tired as i watched it at about 2AM in the morning and I had a similar experience, totally awake and invested once the chase started. I do feel that the ending was a nice reprive from the more fast paced sections of the movie, and yet exceptionally sobering. The whole conversation between the men near the end stuck in my head for a few days afterwords.

@theblessing @Vin03 Yep; I don't know how a triumphant ending would have even worked with what the movie was trying to convey, but it wouldn't be half as good if that were the case. The dread collectively felt at the end is palpable.
