       @rose @domi Gentoo has USE=tty-helpers for this on util-linux, so probably still there, that said I think last time I used wall(1) and talk(1) I was still using OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana, so 2013 at best.

       the last time i used wall(1) and had it work was on arch, after that iirc I tried it either on debian or some rhel based, which didn't workI hope gentoo one works.. then i can annoy navi after we get shared servers :3CC: @domi@donotsta.re

       @rose @domi Well, mesg n is the default on Linux IIRC, so she'd need to do mesg y (or the equivalent chmods).Although maybe I'm getting stuff mixed up and wall(1) is typically setuid/setgid to avoid needing tty-write permissions.

       @rose @domi Well the hard part is listing ttys (utmp my beloathed) but if you're fine with being a bit linux only, could just list out /dev/pts/ and /dev/tty[0-9]* with owner + mtime.(IIRC I have such a hack in my linux test environment)

       @navi @domi @rose Tried it on a Debian oldstable /usr/bin/wall is 0755/-rwxr-xr-x and regardless of tty permissions with mesg(1) it doesn't works (note: for tests you need to have tty owned by other users, owner always has rw perms), with utmp-stuff like who(1) working correctly.And Solaris 10 & 11 do not seem to have a wall(1) (huh).
