@azonenberg Hey, your art comission of the SFP people has many AI traits. Including vanishing point trouble in multiple places. I feel here on fedi that AI use might best be disclosed if used.Can't prove anything. But no trained artist would do this on accident.

@poleguy I've been working with the artist since before genAI was a thing, and have many WIP line art sketches etc from earlier stages of the process. And the artist/studio seem pretty anti-AI in general.So I think it's pretty unlikely. (I would absolutely feel ripped off if it turns out there was slop in the piece, but have no reason to believe that is the case)

hey, @poleguy , that's not cool: check out the pieces @azonenberg commissioned from the same series, done in a very similar style.I get the "let's not boost AI art-simulacra", but this universal "let's doubt everything" that people are getting into lately really hurts real people.

@funkylab @poleguy yep vanishing point issues are entirely reasonable if the artist is tracing a reference image of an unfamiliar object like an LC connector that may not have been taken from exactly the same perspective that the rest of the scene is drawn.It's not a photo, nor is it trying to pretend to be one. Physics doesn't apply in manga :p

@azonenberg It is sad that we now hold on to and present WIP sketches as proof against AI use. My statement was too strong: here is a great example of a real artist producing perspective drawing with similar vanishing point divergence that frequently show up in AI art.Certainly it will be harder and harder to tell. Maybe impossible already at this point. I should have kept quiet. The light beam is clearly not aimed down the SFP barrel. Have you checked with an optical power meter? :-)

I didn't mean this to be an accusation or to be public. My bad.I have been following Andrew's posts for several years, but somehow this was the first of this series that I bumped in to. @azonenberg @funkylab Yes: tracing reference photographs would introduce some of this. But there are many other parts where perspective is unexpected that it almost seems to be an intentional troll of the "AI illustration style." Maybe I was right to posit it was intentional. They're just trolling me. :-)I mean, those binoculars in the final piece are clearly looking straight at a solid LC connector, not out to sea!

@azonenberg @funkylab Well, duh, of course he is! But to me his left eyepiece seems to maybe aim out to sea, and the right one seems to aim at the solid body of the LC, or at least too high to be colinear with the fiber. The left fiber aperture seems to shoot over his right shoulder.But manga. And maybe AI trolling. :-)

@funkylab @azonenberg Thanks. I now do remember seeing this one. But maybe only this one.Before you posted this I had just found this, and tried scrolling further back, but just got blurry images after a few screens.This image also has perspective weirdness. For one thing, it's as if the PCB has dips in it, and/or the PCB router was set to any-angle rather than 45 degrees. :-)

Almost like a technical drawing. It is a very different vibe.
