I think Disney movies might be more fun if they abandoned the ugly ass cookiecutter 3d style they have.I keep thinking about how good they were cooking with shit like Atlantis, Treasure Planet, and Chicken Little. The first two combined hand drawn and cgi, which is honestly fantastic of them, and Chicken Little was their first fully cgi movie.Thing is, they all had such charming detail to their designs.Now we have shit like Moana, Encanto, Wish, Luca, Soul, Coco, etc, that look like the exact same artist made all the models. There is no difference in how the designs feel. Smooth and blobby. I'm on my hands and knees about a face that looks different.I also feel like the stories are too afraid to get wild and a little edgy. Atlantis had no main characters who were kids and featured guns. Treasure Planet had a murderous, creepy spider crab and a wide variety of other alien designs. Chicken Little had stylistic architecture and a great metal alien design.Make your case for a Disney movie that came out in the past ten years.(also credit to Moana, the story was good)

@Paradox mhmmyou can actually pinpoint it to wreck it ralph, when the principaled shaders came onto the scenetrouble is, it makes things look decent, easily, so it's not super likely it'll move away from that style of shading soon, let alone go back to 2dhand drawn 2d animation is so peak imo

@tidest I'll believe that. Though I give that movie a pass cuz the story and characters were so good. I won't say the art style sucks, but it's absolutely overused to the point where it feels like it sucks.I'm sure it's a lost cause expecting more from a company that vacuums up IPs and thinks kids suddenly need diluted and sanitized family value stuff.Anime kinda has the opposite issue where we get consistent bangers, but also there's way more competition... yet they also overwork their artists. Anime fans are used to the hand drawn look and efforts to make 3D anime have looked terrible so they mostly avoid it or do it more sparingly. It has started looking better. Also because of the way anime economy works, they mostly make single cours and don't come back unless LN/manga sales pick up enough to justify it.

@Burrson Yeah that's what sucks. It's not like this kind of movie is bad, it's that they've pigeonholed themselves into a specific style when they used to have some variety to their craft, and it usually paid off.Granted, it didn't always work out. I feel bad that Black Cauldron was a flop, cuz I enjoyed that one.

@Paradox on a more serious note. I have been watching some Disney movies in the last years with my siblings and I have watched a few Disney films in my childhood. And I do have the feeling the old ones caused more amazement in me. Stuff like hercules and Mulan really formed me as a child. I liked Vaiana and I like zootopia. Funny film, nice songs I left the chinema joking with those I went it and feeling uplifted.Will Vaiana or zootopia have a lasting impression on my brother? I doubt it
