       @mbr but likeif one has bad reception in their phone, the train will also have bad reception itself in its wifi

       @kitten @mbr speaking for Germany, here the trains have way better hardware for antennas, and use MIMO to aggregate multiple gigabits over like a dozen of (e)sim cards with contracts from each of the three big cellular data providers so if you just used your phone with subscription to one provider you'd never get the same bandwidth, and if many people are in one wifi they're also less likely to congest channels for everyone else

       @kitten maybe they used to be more useful in the past? DSB removed the wifi on our S-Tog a few years back because they only had 1k daily users from 13k a decade earlier. Though that's in comparison to a daily ridership of 360k

       @alina @kitten @mbr WIFIonICE is like always way worse than my mobile phone if the windows are lasered in terms of bandwidth.
