Fun Fact: Your WiFi access point needs to know what country it's in because of important laws about specific radio powers and channels and other functionality. It can be super-complicated! For example, DFS detects radar pulses and switches frequency for safety.https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/wens/wireless-regdb.git/tree/db.txt?id=HEAD

@SwiftOnSecurity 6Ghz wifi on outdoor APs involves reaching out to a central server for time and location bounded frequency and power allocations.https://aviatnetworks.com/interference/fcc-6-ghz-gvp-wifi-interference-solutions/

@SwiftOnSecurity One more argument for putting more resources into (and building greater respect for) the ISO. These standards should be global.

@SwiftOnSecurity and then the deployment team promptly turns off all safeguards and runs everything full power :P

@SwiftOnSecurity thanks, I was always wondering why that actually mattered!

@SwiftOnSecurity I learnt that the hard way a long time ago when I was asked to write something for an Internet box firmware 🙃

@SwiftOnSecurity It can make it quite painful if you're deploying a 5 GHz network near an airport, as it can really limit what channels are available in a stable way.(I am headed to a job site in the latter half of July, and I am *praying* that this is far enough away from the airport that we're not impacted by this. Hopefully "a little over a mile" is enough.)

@SwiftOnSecurity at least we fixed listen-before-send in the 6GHz band. (well, sorta. it's better than it was.)

@SwiftOnSecurity I got bit by this! I thought I was being secure and blocking my APs from directly accessing the Internet. I mean, they're just WiFi APs, why would *they* need to call out instead of just routing traffic to my switch?Turns out UniFi APs *do* need to do make network calls for DFS to work, and if they fail, you don't get 6 GHz. Luckily Ubiquiti publishes the URLs you need to allowlist:https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/25707346939927-6-GHz-Extended-Range-AFC-in-UniFi
