       🟪 just to be clear what's going on:right now, for #RustLang contributions, we do not have any policy besides "no bottom-of-the-barrel slop allowed" and this has resulted in a lot of issues. we have an entire private discussion getting vibe checks from each other on whether something seems LLM-authored or if they're just not reading it properly, and it's very frustrating to see so many people have so many unanswered questions about what to do.one team member decided to make a policy to help get something out before we could fully form a consensus on the entire project. this only applies to the rust-lang/rust repo, which stores the compiler, rustdoc, and the standard library. notably absent are cargo, rust-analyzer, rustfmt, and all the various external crates the rust project maintains. there are even more things excluded from this I have not mentioned. the point is that this is aiming to just reduce the damage on the place that is receiving the most traffic.the author of said policy has been trying their best and making some mistakes. they recently apologised today for including a quote from another team member which, honestly, should not even be considered fairly at all. it's just a bad quote.said team member making said bad quote was explicitly pissed at us for alluding to them in a blog post "without sharing the extra context" (there was no extra context. it was just a link to a news article and a monologue about it) and the added quote and their name does not do any additional justice.one person on fedi shares this quote and dunks on it and there are a few comments on the PR before it gets locked to contributors. notably: we are not a contributor able to comment on this, so, now we're blocked from commenting too.we tried to reason with them on fedi to argue that merely dunking in the PR is pointless, but they didn't take it well and we just ended the situation amicably. a few other people who clearly don't have any reading comprehension decided to dunk on us and we asked them to not, then blocked them.apparently, things have gotten really shit, because all the people involved and the Rust foundation have been getting threatening emails, and Rust Week, a public event where many of these people will be attending, is next weekwhat the utter fuck are any of you doingsure, you might think any one person deserves to be called out for their words, but this is about fucking LLM usage on a fucking software project. none of it is worth this. all you're doing is making a massive fucking moderation headache and fuck you.and to the people who are complaining about me trying to at least let people know what's going on, fuck you too. you're just making everyone exhausted who is on your fucking side and is so tired of LLMs that they just want to go scorched earth on the entire thing. instead we have to protect the safety of people who have been shit to us because you fuckers couldn't contain yourselvesfuck off
