       It's less that atom/RSS is "dead", and more that its "done".The protocol is finished. It works well. It's stable and unremarkable as opposed to trendy.And to capitalists, that's "dead".Nothing to hype, no wealth to extract.

       @socketwench The great insight I got from reading Cory Doctorow is that companies are not interesting in providing a stable revenue-generating service. They are interested in growth. Which means anything that simply works well is of no use to them.

       @mike @socketwench it’s not just that there’s no growth, but also something that solves a problem and is easy to replicate diffuses and helps others without capturing value.In Competition is for Losers, Thiel seemingly laments that Issac Newton didn’t capture the value of his theories. Can you imagine how worthless that work would be if it were subject to #enshittification

       @mike @socketwench The thing that chodes like Peter Thiel don’t understand is that progress relies on innovations whose value can’t be captured. Whether it’s Newton or Einstein creating theories that lead to technologies they’ll never see (or patent), open source software, or hell the very language we’re using to express ourselves… Real progress is anti-rival, built on ideas that get better the more they’re shared. Something Thiel's winner-take-all capitalism cannot produce.
